I imagine there are not many people who wake up early in the morning, excited about cleaning. But we all enjoy a nice, neat, and clean home. But there’s no way around it – we have to roll up the sleeves and get down to business.
Cleaning is not on anyone’s top favorite list, but if you wait for motivation to drop down on you, your home may become so messy it takes days to sort out. That’s why finding the motivation to do this once or twice a week will make the chore much easier on you.
We spoke to the experts at My Maid Service Cincinnati about the best ways to motivate yourself to clean your home when you’re just not up to it. Here are their top tips:
List Out Your Reasons Why
Make a list of the reasons why you should clean your home. This can be everything from wanting to have a clean and healthy environment for your family, to wanting to impress guests when they come over.
Putting it down on paper will help remind you why you’re doing this. Motivating yourself is much easier if you have an ultimate goal and know why you are doing what you are doing.
Set Some Goals For Yourself
Instead of just saying “I want to clean my house today,” try setting a goal like “I want to clean the kitchen and living room by the end of the day.” Setting goals will make it easier for you, as the whole project of home cleaning becomes divided and therefore more manageable. This brings us to the next item.
Break It Down Into Smaller Tasks
When you’re feeling overwhelmed by the task of cleaning your entire home, break it down into smaller tasks that can be completed in a shorter amount of time. This will make it feel less daunting and more achievable.
Make sure to cross items off your list, which will give you some sort of a progress indicator that will keep you going. It’s much easier to finish cleaning when you see there are only a few things left to do.
Reward Yourself After Completing A Task
Once you’ve finished cleaning the bathroom, give yourself a five-minute break to relax or take a quick walk around the block. After finishing the whole house, maybe allow yourself an hour to watch your favorite show or take a nap.
Rewarding yourself is a huge part of building motivation and not going into the experience thinking it is a form of punishment.
Find A Cleaning Buddy
It’s always more fun to do something with someone else, so see if you can find a friend or family member who wants to help you out and make it into a social activity. Cleaning can be very fun when you involve your entire family, and it sets a good example for your children which they can take into their own life.
Put On Some Music
A little bit of background noise can make the task of cleaning go by faster. And who doesn’t love a good cleaning playlist? Tune into your favorite Spotify playlist filled with energetic and upbeat tunes, and before you know it you will be dancing and singing into your broom like you were in a music video.
